Maria Connolly

Maria is a Belfast-based writer and performer. She has worked extensively in film, television, radio and theatre, winning a Best Actress nomination Irish Times/ESB Theatre Award for her portrayal of Denise in Jackie Doyle’s PROBLEM CHILD in 2001.

In television, she featured in A RAP AT THE DOOR, OUT OF THE DEAD PAN, MADE IN HEAVEN for BBC 2 and BETRAYAL OF TRUST (BBC NI). On Stage, she played Anne Best in the musical DANCING SHOES – THE GEORGE BEST STORY with GBL productions and appeared in Kabosh Theatre Company’s INVENTORS directed by Paula McFetridge. Recent screen work includes sci-fi adventure ROBOT OVERLORDS directed by John Wright, starring Gillian Anderson and Ben Kingsley and LINE OF DUTY 2 created by Jed Mercurio for BBC2.

Recent stage perfomances include Rahab in Abbie Spallen’s LALLY THE SCUT directed by Michael Duke and presented by Tinderbox at the MAC, Belfast and Karen in THE HISTORY OF PEACE (According to My Ma) by Martin Lynch for GBL Productions.

Following last year’s successful run of Brenda Murphy’s TWO SORE LEGS, Maria’s one-woman show will be performed at The Theatre Upstairs, The Route 66 Smokehouse as part of this years CualaNYC Irish Cultural Festival and is set to return to Irish stages for a limited run this coming autumn.
